Intermodal Express was founded in 2007 to develop and operate the LF. Intermodal Express will construct and maintain the intermodal transfer
infrastructure which primarily consists of rail yards, ramps, switch engines and staging areas for trucks.
Intermodal Express will aggregate the demand of long-haul truckers and create a retail service that will contract with UPRR and BNSF to transport
tractor-trailers and drivers across the east-west freight corridors 25% - 50% cheaper and faster than driving without any loss of service or
flexibility. Intermodal Express will manage the "retail" relationships with the trucking firms and independent operators. Intermodal Express will
resell UP's and BNSF's long-haul rail service and provide tightly scheduled departures and arrivals to ensure a high level of service reliability.
UPRR and BNSF get complete unit trains of 100+ cars with only one pick-up point and one or two destinations with no switching, i.e. "hook and haul"
services and only one business relationship.
